High Sensitivity Anti-neutrino Detection by Kamland
نویسنده
چکیده
Electron anti-neutrinos (ν̄e) from nuclear power reactors have been observed by KamLAND. Data from 0.16 kton·year exposure (145.1 live days) indicates disappearance of ν̄e at 99.95% C.L. in the energy range 2.6 MeV < Eν̄e < 8.0 MeV. Considering two-flavor neutrino oscillation with CPT invariance, the only remaining solution to the solar neutrino problem is the Large Mixing Angle (LMA) solution. In addition a 0.28kton·year exposure (185.5 live days) was searched for ν̄e in the energy range 8.3 MeV < Eν̄e < 14.8 MeV. No candidate events were found with expected background of 1.1±0.4 events. Assuming that the origin of ν̄e in this energy region comes from B solar νe, we find an upper limit of νe to ν̄e conversion probability of 2.8 ×10.

The Sensitivity of SNO+ to ∆m12 Using Reactor Anti-neutrino Data
Insofar as the detection of anti-neutrinos from nuclear reactors is concerned, the SNO+ detector – a 1 kilo-tonne liquid scintillator detector that inherits the experimental infrastructure from the recently finished SNO experiment – is expected to perform just as well as the KamLAND experiment. The most important difference between these experiments is the distribution of nuclear reactors: wher...
متن کاملThe HLMA project: determination of high ∆m LMA mixing parameters and constraint on |Ue3| with a new reactor neutrino experiment
In the forthcoming months, the KamLAND experiment will probe the parameter space of the solar large mixing angle (LMA) MSW solution as the origin of the solar neutrino deficit with ν̄e’s from distant nuclear reactors. If however the solution realized in nature is such that ∆m2sol > ∼ 2 · 10 eV (thereafter named the HLMA region), KamLAND will only observe a rate suppression but no spectral distor...
متن کاملThe Supernova Relic Neutrino Backgrounds at KamLAND and Super-Kamiokande
We calculate the Supernova Relic Neutrino (SRN) background flux for the KamLAND and Super-Kamiokande (Super-K) detectors, motivated by the reduction in background at Super-K and new results for the star formation history (e.g., from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS)). Our best estimate for the flux at Super-K is slightly below, but very close to the current Super-K upper limit. The Super-K up...
متن کاملGEONEUTRINO ANALYSIS IN KamLAND: INPUT AND DESIDERATA
The Kamioka Liquid scintillator Anti-Neutrino Detector (KamLAND) is collecting antineutrino events generated by nuclear reactors and by Thorium and Uranium decay in the Earth interior. We comment on a systematic approach to the evaluation of the geo-neutrino contribution and of its uncertainties in KamLAND, taking into account geophysical and geochemical indications, estimates, and data. The re...
متن کاملOn the measurement of solar neutrino oscillation parameters with KamLAND
A new reactor power plant Shika-2, with a power of approximately 4 GW and at a distance of about 88 km from the KamLAND detector is scheduled to start operating in March 2006. We study the impact of the ν̄e flux from this reactor on the sensitivity of the KamLAND experiment to the solar neutrino oscillation parameters. We present results on prospective determination of m2 and sin2 θ using the co...
